7 Things Married People Won’t Tell You about Marriage

cynthiaokpala.blogspot.com
In this part of the world, we are more idealists than realists. If we face setbacks in business, we are comfortable with reciting the famous words, “it is well’. If rain soaks you on the way to the office, it’s ‘showers of blessings’ and a promotion is probably on the way. If our right palm itches, it means some long lost relative will send cash soon.
It is no wonder that for many ladies, marriage seems to be the escape from society’s pressures. Many of us fantasize, dream or even start planning a wedding before meeting ‘the one’. Worse still, the romantic movies of heroes falling in love with less than perfect women and sweeping them off their feet in a proposal at the airport, add kerosene to our flame of fantasy. The truth is: idealism is great; but the idealist never knows what to do when the real situation hits hard like a deadly punch from a wrestler’s fist.
Without sounding like a messenger of doom, I will share with you secrets many couples never share about marriage. These are things I have learnt since I got married. I hope you are inspired by it.
The Most Glamorous Part of a Marriage is the Wedding
A gorgeous cake, fresh flowers, wedding gown by Vera Wang, the exotic honeymoon, the paparazzi – all these come into play at the wedding. From the moment the bride wakes up on her wedding day to the moment she spends her first official night as a married woman, she feels on top of the world. Too bad the party can’t last forever.
When you see an elderly couple retaking their marriage vows with tears in their eyes, please note that those are not just tears of happiness; there are tears of a story well told – of joy, pain, courage, sadness and victory against all odds. If you’re not ready to deal with these, it’s not a sin to wait a little. Marriage is hard work and sacrifice.
The Word ‘Sacrifice’ will Suddenly Come up More Often in Your Dictionary
That word we all dread – sacrifice. From the first day, you would find out that you may have to place the needs of others before yours, and if you are blessed with children, get ready for more sacrifices. Will there be times you wish you were single? Yes. Will there be times you wish for one minute to yourself? Definitely. If given the opportunity, would you do it all over again? For most people, YES – especially if you are with the right person.
Marriage is Not for Pretenses or Show-off
Whether you cook with diamonds in your Egusi soup or look like a goddess or even know a thousand styles in bed, a man always knows to whom his heart belongs. The meaning is simple: be yourself before marriage and don’t try to portray what you are not. Let him fall in love with the essence of you not with an image you have created. It’s difficult to fall out of such love except either of you change sometime during the marriage.
You Never Really Know a man/woman Until You get Married
Forget that you two lived in the same house for a few years before marriage, as far as there is no contract binding the two of you together in matrimony, you have not started. People tend to let down their hair when they are married and like an onion, the real us we have kept to ourselves start to unravel. The only thing to do is adjust and move on – you’re in it for real this time.
Marriage is Team Work
Like a job, if you like team work, this role is for you. Just kidding. What I am saying here is that if you don’t work together as a team, you are heading for a major disaster. The unfortunate thing is that you can’t control the other person’s mind and vice versa so one just has to respect the other person’s boundaries, and it’s difficult if both of you are always bent on having your way.
Like a Rollercoaster, There are Ups and Downs
Don’t think that in marriage, every day will be a holiday. You are kidding yourself. In fact, the most ecstatic moments in marriage come after a low period. Like every good story, you will be faced with challenges and tests. Even if you fail one, life will give you an opportunity to repeat the test. But when you pass one, the rewards are priceless.
Marriage is the Ultimate Gamble
Sometimes, marriage leads to happily ever after. Sometimes, it doesn’t. All is fair in love and war. If it doesn’t, dust your feet, learn from past mistakes and start painting a rosy future without giving in to society’s pressures.
Many times, society looks down on divorced women. We are quick to point fingers that it is a woman’s fault that things did not work out. The fact is it could be anybody’s fault. Yes, I know a woman is supposed to be resilient and determined to keep her man, but everyone has their limit of tolerance. We should respect that and not throw stones. If you did not live in their bedroom, try not to judge or place blames. Most times, divorce is the very last option for couples and it is a painful decision to make.
At the end, marriage is about two selfless people living together to achieve each other’s goals. If you find the right person to make that sacrifice with you, you are extremely lucky; as lucky as I am.
Happy Living!

Cancer survivor tattoos over scars left by breast removal

Pictures of women posing topless are nothing new on the internet, but the latest snaps to go viral are a little bit different.
These shots show three-time cancer survivor Kelly Davidson showing off her new tattoo which covers her chest – and the scars left by the removal of her breasts.
The 34-year-old Canadian decided to get the elaborate tattoo instead of reconstructive surgery after undergoing a double mastectomy.
Kelly posted pictures of her new ink work – which features a fairy forest and butterflies – on Facebook, writing: "My tattoo symbolizes a transformation, my metamorphosis, like a butterfly I changed on the outside but remained the same on the inside".
Her brave move was warmly received by the web, with messages of support and praise pouring in.
Kelly was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 11. She discovered she had breast cancer and had the mastectomy at 28, and four years later she went on to beat thyroid cancer.

Federal prosecutors charged the surviving man suspected of bombing the finish of last week’s Boston Marathon with one count of using a weapon of mass destruction and one count of malicious destruction of property resulting in death, the Justice Department said on Monday.
The charges authorize penalties including death, life in prison or a term in prison for any number of years, the Justice Department said in a statement.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was seriously injured in a firefight with police before his Friday arrest, was charged in his hospital bed earlier on Monday.
Meanwhile, Tsarnaev has been moved to the custody of the U.S. Marshalls from the custody of the FBI where he was initially detained after he declined to answer bail questions and agreed to a court hearing which was set for 30 May.

Wife of Madagascar’s Ousted President Makes Leadership Bid

cynthiaokpala.blogspot.com
The wife of Madagascar’s ousted President Marc Ravalomanana has put herself forward to run in July’s presidential election, a move that could be aimed at preparing a comeback by the fallen leader.
The impoverished island nation has been in crisis since Marc Rajoelina, now president, led an uprising that ousted Ravalomanana from office in 2009, triggering turmoil that scared off investors and devastated the vital tourism industry.
Rajoelina, a former disc jockey, said in January he would not run in the vote scheduled for July 24, after he came under pressure from regional powers which had pressed him to stand aside to prevent fresh unrest in this year’s vote.
Ravalomanana, a wealthy businessman now in exile in South Africa, has also agreed not to run again. He was sentenced in absentia to life in prison after he was accused of ordering elite troops to kill Rajoelina’s supporters.
Speaking outside the election court that is accepting nominations, the former president’s wife, Lalao Ravalomanana Rakotonirainy, told reporters: “We give thanks to God. The application is indeed filed.”
She was surrounded by a few hundred cheering supporters outside the court, where 15 other candidates have already submitted their names. The authorities are due to draw up an official list of candidates by May 3.
“As President Ravalomanana cannot stand in the presidential election, his wife is our natural candidate,” Mamy Rakotoarivelo, member of parliament and former close associate of Ravalomanana, told Reuters ahead of the submission.
“It should allow us to regain the power that was seized in an illegal manner.”
Critics say the presidential bid could be an attempt by Ravalomanana to make a return to politics by the backdoor.
“It is a trick of Marc Ravalomanana,” said political commentator and author Toavina Ralambomahay, saying his wife had no political experience but could still win with the backing of Ravalomanana’s supporters.
“It could prepare the return of her husband,” he said.
Rajoelina led demonstrations against Ravalomanana in early 2009, accusing him of political repression and criticizing his plans to lease tracts of land to the Korean company Daewoo.
A general strike in the capital turned into deadly protests before the army stepped in and backed Rajoelina.
Countries from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) brokered a deal in September 2011 that confirmed Rajoelina as president and allowed for the unconditional return of Ravalomanana from self-imposed exile in South Africa.
But the plan has been beset by disagreements, including over whether Ravalomanana should be imprisoned if he returns home. SADC leaders urged both men not to stand in the election.
The first round of the presidential election is scheduled for July 24 and the second round, coupled with a legislative vote, is set for September 25.

2015 Election: You Have 7 Days To Apologise To Akpabio, Politicians Warn

cynthiaokpala.blogspot.com
The Chairmen of the 10 local government areas in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district of Akwa Ibom, have handed down a 7-day ultimatum with effect from the 24th of April 24, 2013 to Senator Alloysius Etok, to retract his statement on stalling the nomination of Governor Godswill Akpabio, as the aspirant for the senatorial district in the 2015 general elections.
The chairmen stormed the state office of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Uyo, the state capital, where they condemned the Senator’s recent statement that the senatorial seat is not vacant.
Senator Etok is currently representing Ikot Ekpene senatorial district in the National Assembly and the state governor who is rounding off his second term in office, an exclusive interview that he will be running for the Senate in the 2015 elections as demanded by his people.
Mr Akpabio hails from Ikot Ekpene senatorial district.
Meanwhile, speaking on a radio programme on issues of the state, Senator Etok, is reported to have declared that “the seat was not vacant.”
He is also reported to have stated that the governor should have consulted with him before going public with his ambition to contest for his current seat in the Senate.
The protesting counsellors while issuing the ultimatum demanded that Senator Etok must issue an “unreserved apology to the governor and the entire people of Ikot Ekpene senatorial district” over the statement.
The Senator was not in the state at the time of the incident but residents of the oil rich state said they are looking forward to how the political crisis will play out between a political god father and his self-confessed anointed political son.
It will be recalled that Mr Akpabio was recently embroiled in an election rigging controversy when he openly confessed that he scratched off the name of another aspirant for Mr Etok to emerge a Senator.
The Governor has since explained that he was ‘misunderstood‘ because the changing of names was done ahead of the party primaries and election during the party leaders talk.
